The Songkeeper’s Path
Foundations of Singing with Strings – August 2025

A 4-week journey into the sacred integration of guitar, voice, and prayer.
This is a foundational step on The Songkeeper’s Path for those ready to unite voice and string in service of sacred song. It’s designed for participants who already have a basic relationship with rhythm and vocal practice, and are now ready to begin weaving the guitar into their devotional toolkit.
Whether you’re newer to guitar or have been playing for years, this is an opportunity to explore how voice, rhythm, and prayer can flow through your fingertips and into the world.
What We’ll Explore:
This cohort is for those who already feel connected to rhythm and voice, and are ready to begin integrating the guitar into their sacred music practice. We’ll focus on foundational chords, clear strumming patterns, and devotional songs that support this integration.
For those with more guitar experience, you’ll be encouraged to deepen your study through layered rhythms, alternate strumming patterns, and fingerpicking — all while anchoring the current of prayer through both voice and instrument.

Over 4 weeks, we will:
Learn foundational guitar chords and strumming patterns to support devotional songs
Explore the voice as a rhythmic and melodic companion to the instrument
Practice integrating voice and guitar through chants and prayers drawn from a living devotional songbook
Build confidence in holding both rhythm and melody as one offering — with opportunities to deepen into fingerpicking, alternate strumming patterns, or vocal harmonies as skill allows
Strengthen your devotional presence through song, while being held in a supportive, collaborative group space
This is not a performance class — it is a devotional circle of remembrance and opening.

“This path has changed me — softened me, empowered me, and reminded me that singing is one of the oldest ways we remember who we are. I offer this space in service to those ready to begin.”

This offering is for those who already have a foundational relationship with rhythm and voice, and are ready to begin integrating the guitar into their sacred music practice. Whether you're just beginning your journey with guitar or have played for years, this cohort provides a space to explore the meeting point of string, song, and prayer.
-
No prior guitar experience is required — we will start with foundational chords and strumming. However, this is not an entry point into music overall. Participants should already feel comfortable with rhythm and singing, as these will be central to the work.
That being said, existing guitar experience will enable you to dive deeper into playing and singing with different rhythms and techniques.
-
Beautiful — you are most welcome here. You’ll be invited to deepen your practice through more advanced strumming patterns, fingerpicking, and vocal layering. This course is about integration and refinement, not speed or virtuosity.
-
Yes. While you don’t need to be a “singer,” a willingness to sing is essential for this offering. The voice is a core element of our devotional practice, and this cohort is designed to support your growth in using voice and guitar together in sacred song. You will be lovingly invited to sing and play in community — always within a held and non-judgmental space.
-
That’s okay — many of us do. This is not a performance space, but a space for practice, prayer, and encouragement. You’ll be supported to grow at your own pace, with the gentle invitation to stretch into your edges as you’re ready.
-
This circle is limited to 8 participants to ensure a held and intimate space for exploration and growth.
-
I'm here to walk beside you—wherever your path leads—into the depths of voice, rhythm, and devotional practice.
Private 1:1 sessions are offered in 60- or 90-minute formats, providing focused support in vocal expression, musical grounding, personal practice, and the subtle arts of presence and prayer.

That said, live attendance is strongly encouraged, as this is a communal learning container. Those who are able to fully participate (unless otherwise discussed with Ala) will be given priority in upcoming series. We rely on shared presence to cultivate the full depth and medicine of this work.

Yes. We open a limited number of need-based scholarships for each cohort and prioritize those who identify as BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+. We are committed to making this work accessible and to supporting those most often excluded from sacred music spaces.
